• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Help me, whats this worth

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Ok, i have a ruger mini 30 rifle that i posted for sale,, I have a guy that wants to trade me his Sako L61R chambered in .338 Win Mag, the rifle has a plastice stock, in camo ( good shape), and pretty nice bluing on the steel, scope on it has no value. I value my mini 30 at 600, what is the value of the sako (neighborhood), i really don't want it in 338, but if the deal is good enough, i can trade it on for something else i want. any help is appreciated, THANKS!!!

I'd trade a Mini-30 for a three-legged mule if my conscience wouldn't bother me for cheating the mule owner.

However, in Dollar denominations, it is not possible from your description of the Sako to determine if it is the near equivalent of $600. I'll just say that very few Sakos in decent condition aren't worth $600.

You're narrowing your audience considerably banking on this rifle being good trade material. I'm with stonecreek regarding the mini 30. As far as an even trade, you'd be fine more than likely....be prepared to sit on the 338 for a bit. Like I said, it's have to be the right person. We had a 338 floating around on local forums here in Georgia that had a McMillan stock on it. He could get rid of it at $700. No matter how hoed he tried. I don't see it anymore, he must of found someone that wanted the rifle.

Keep in mind that any rifle's "trade" value is much less than it's cash sale value. Especially if you trade it at a retail store. A 338 may have more trade or cash value in Alaska, but your Mini 30 may have more market value in Indiana (where you can't even use a rifle to hunt deer, if memory serves me correctly). Unless I wanted that 338, I wouldn't trade for it, as from past experience the 338 can be hard to move. If he can't sell it for $600 & pay you, why would you take on his problem? That it has an aftermarket stock & is not factory original makes it an even easier decision. Just my two cents!
