• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Found a Sako in Alberta

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Old Albertan with a gun, Woody here. I have a few Sakos but this one I found for sale is a curiosity. It is a Riihimaki with H161xxx serial number on the bolt. But look at the barrel, it only says 222Rem. It has a bulge strange taper. It must be a re-barrel job. The stock has many scares from farm truck use. Can anyone help with the barrel? is it a Sako? If so is it worth the 400 bucks he wants for the gun? It shoots surprisingly well, close to an inch with a cheap scope and factory loads.

Hi Doug; The stock looks like it's from a Marlin Model 322 and the serial number fits (16XXX) for that era. The barrel contour looks to me like its off a later model Browning/Sako safari. The micro groove barrels were changed out on a lot of Marlins because of alleged poor accuracy so yours was probably replaced for the same reason I'm guessing.
Just my 2 cents; DPH

thanks for the info, i'm sure you are correct. I looked at some Marlins and Browning Sakos on line now that you mentioned it. Seems like quite a story parts and manufacturers. This one is a far cry from good looking, but it does shoot as good as I can see at my age. I may try it with a better scope.

I'm another old Albertan. In Canada, that L46 .222 magazine alone goes for around $150. (Can) or more. The rifle is definitely worth $400.
