• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

    Sako-Mauser 8x60

I am very late to the conversation but I note from the photos that the caliber roll mark is longitudinal (parallel to the bore) whereas my rifle has "8 X 60" rolled marked radially as does every other SAKO I've examined. Mine shoots as well as yours with 200 grain .318" psp Buffalo bullets from...

    Some Unique Sako-Mausers

Stone Creek, I have an 8 x 60 very similar to yours except mine has a schnable on the fore end and a hood over the front sight. It has not been drilled and tapped for scope mounting. The checkering does not cross the bottom centerline of the stock, leaving a thin, uncheckered strip 1/4" wide...

    Original aperture sight

Thanks for the reply. I have tried flipping to the 200 meter setting without success. My handloads are 55 grain fmj or 55 grain psp with moderate, not maximum loads of IMR4895 for the .223. Perhaps there is some problem with adjustment of the two main action screws that is affecting the bedding...

    Original aperture sight

I have a late model SAKO aperture sight that works well and adjusts properly on my early L579 12-groove .308. The sight also fits my L461 .223, however, even with the lowest front sight blade, and the aperture raised as far as possible, the bullet impact on target at 100 yards is 6-7 inches too...

    Sako FN 8x60

I own a similar rifle but chambered in 8 x 60 but not 8 x 60S, in other words my rifle takes .318" bullets. It is very accurate and powerful enough to be my primary elk rifle using 200 grain Buffalo Arms soft point bullets. The checkering on my stock is slightly different than your photos show...

FN Mauser Sako 300 H&H Mag

I am late to this thread but I have an FN-long action SAKO in 8x60 and it is definitely an "I", not an "S". I have slugged the bore and made a Cerrosafe cast of the chamber. 200 grain PSP .318" bullets are readily available from Buffalo Arms Company in Ponderay, Idaho, U.S.A. Woodleigh in...

    8 x 60 High Power

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. Unaltered (Un-drilled) FN actions are rare in my area as is an 8x60 SAKO. I have an L461. .223 and Early L579. .308 with SAKO rings when I need a scoped rifle. The cocking piece aperture sights I've seen on commercial Mausers is quite appealing.

    8 x 60 High Power

My nice 8 x60 FN Sako just wants to be shot. It is as accurate as I can hold (1.5"@100 yards) with paper patched .311" 180 grain (.303 British) soft point spitzers and open sights. I will not drill and thread the action for scope mount bases. Does anyone know where I might obtain a cocking piece...
