• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

    Sako Handy Fiber

Lots of interesting info. I failed at posting pics from the catalogs I got. Closest I found was a pick of a wood stocked carbine with “Also available in fiberglass…” in the description. I’m not sure of the date of the catalog. It’s the closest thing I’ve seen to my rifle, except for that rear sight.

Me too. Big fan of little .243s.

Found this in a 1991 dealer price list. No 270 win.

There's no evidence of another point of contact on the barrel or receiver for a Battue rib, and the rear sight doesn't look like its had a rib removed. That's interesting about the Handy rifle's concussion. I first heard of Handy rifles a year (or more) ago when I saw a couple of 30-06s on GB...

Just noticed a 6.5x55 on GB that looks like it, except for the rear sight.

    Sako Handy Fiber

It doesn't look like its thrown together or over improved. The action screws aren't boogered. There's no failed attempt at bedding. I can't tell that anyone has messed with it. The only flaw I've found is an honest-enough bend in the front sight hood. For what I paid, I would have been...

    Sako Handy Fiber

Here are a few images. Maybe it was someone’s project and they cobbled the pieces together. Maybe its oem. Either way I like it. I saw a reference to something like it in the 1991 catalog so I ordered one. Should be here Thursday. Again, any information is appreciated.

    Sako Handy Fiber

Hello all, I’ve been all over this site, which has been very helpful, and think I’ve learned that what I thought was a fiberclass is actually a handy fiber (or Franken gun). I have an AV 270 that has an 18-20” barrel with iron sights and a black synthetic stock with “Sako” butt pad. Does anyone...

    Where are the metric Mannlichers?

Thanks to all for the education. Guess I’ll look more closely at some of the .243s online now. Maybe to satisfy my itch I’ll get the 243 mannlicher, an 8mm black bear and a 7x64 grizzly. I’m sure the wife would understand. There’s a 25-06 on GI that would be interesting but I’m curious why the...

    Where are the metric Mannlichers?

Good evening all. I've decided I need a Mannlicher and have been shopping online for a while. I like the A series and L579 actions more than the current Bavarian Carbine. Very tempted to take one of the .243s on GI but I think I'd rather hold out for a 6.5x55, 7x57 or 8x57. How long do I...

    L579 Bolt Finish

That's kind of what I have, except nice looking.

Thanks for the reply. Numbers matched. I bought it.

    L579 Bolt Finish

Hello all. I was looking at a used L579 and noticed the bolt handle wasn't blued. I've since been looking here and on other sites and it looks like the handles and rear of the assemblies are always blued. I think the rifle is an early '70s model. Should I be concerned that the bolt is not...

Where to find an AV bolt?

Good evening all. I have my father's 1990(ish) AV that started life as a 7mm Remington magnum. He loved that rifle. When Remington introduced the ultra mags, dad insisted on having it rechambered for the 7mm RUM. Once it was done I don't think he used it 10 more times. I despise the RUM. I'd...
