• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

    Abstained use of a L61R

I’m most familiar w the early L46’s, but curious to learn more about the large actions. How does the .375 H&H rate in terms of desirable calibers? How much of a difference does it make between being a L61R or later AV? Thanks

Your thoughts on the 222 Engraved HB Riihimaki that recently sold at auction?

Well it looks like there’s been some pretty good appreciation in the Sako L46 market since this rifle sold at auction in 2011.... It’s turned up at retail and the ask now is $4K!?! https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/rifles/sako-rifles/sako-riihimaki-custom.cfm?gun_id=101120235

    Tikka/Ithaca 12/222

For what it’s worth, I picked up a Tikka M07 circa 1973 at a local gun show a few years back. As I recall, after getting the gun, I looked it up in Arma Fenica and found it referred to as a “Tikka Haulikkorihla”, 12 ga / 222. I wanted to put a scope on it and so then I found a pair of Tikka...

L579 w tang safety & Colt connection - Any Insight?

Thanks for everyone's insight. Here's some pics of the trigger and safety & the back of the card with info on it. I should clarify the paper that I received from the owner on this rifle (8 years or so after I bought it) is not a Colt letter, but a note card with the info the seller had on the...

L46 .25-20 Did Anyone see this?

http://www.amoskeagauction.com/105/292.html Here's something you don't see everyday - a L46 in 25-20! Did anyone see this at auction or happen to be the lucky bidder? I'd be interested to hear more about this rare rifle. Looks like a good auction.

    222 L46 bullet choice

I've found similar bullet issues with the L46, with our modern long poly tipped bullets in 50gr not doing so well and frustrating to reload in the slow twist early Sako. My favorite load for the past 7-8 years has been 40 Sierra BlitzKing with 21.0 gr IMR 4198 seated to fit the clip. I found...

L579 w tang safety & Colt connection - Any Insight?

I purchased this Sako about 8-9 years ago from a friend of mine who was a long time collector of fine firearms. It looks like a Sako L579 Forester in 22-250, but has some interesting differences including the safety is on the tang & the stock has Colt insignia. At first I thought it might be...

    Gun Safes

I just got my second safe delivered this week. Both of mine are medium sized and made to hold about 24 guns. My thought is it's better to get 2 medium sized safes than one giant safe due to ease of moving. You're always going to out grow your safe no matter the size. The guy who moved my...

    New Purchase L46 7x33 Sako SN 24xx

Sako Fans: Did any of you see this 7x33 that sold at auction this past fall? Looks like a later one, SN 34119, but a very nice condition L46 in 7x33. It sold for $1872 (I think that includes buyer's premium). My question is, was that about right or a good deal (or maybe even a great deal)...

Load suggestions for L46 & L461 in 222 Rem and 222 Rem Mag?

Thanks, I assume you are using a 40gr Sierra Blitz King or are you going heavier? I haven't tried the CCI primer, but I also haven't had any issues in my 222 Riihimaki not igniting the Rem 7 1/2. I did have that issue in my Vixen 222 Rem Mag, but my gunsmith found there was too much headspace...

Load suggestions for L46 & L461 in 222 Rem and 222 Rem Mag?

Thanks Stonecreek for the load suggestions! I've put H335 and some Speer 50gr TNT's on my shopping list. I'll let you know how they do. Thanks.

Load suggestions for L46 & L461 in 222 Rem and 222 Rem Mag?

Thanks for your info on your experience with getting aftermarket stocks to improve accuracy. I am interested in trying your pet loads & I'll make sure the screws are tight (I think I'm going w/ 40-45 lbs of torque). I'll consider getting an aftermarket stock as I get more into it. Thanks again.

Load suggestions for L46 & L461 in 222 Rem and 222 Rem Mag?

Hawki, Thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking forward to giving them a try. So you suggest that I get one of my Riihimaki's glass bedded for best accuracy? I've held off on having any work done to them to keep them as close to original condition as I've found them in. I guess there's no...

Load suggestions for L46 & L461 in 222 Rem and 222 Rem Mag?

What load suggestions can I get from the collection of Sako experts here - I'm shooting the 222 Rem in some Riihimakis and I'm shooting the 222 Rem Mag in a Vixen. So far in the 222 Rem loaded for the Riihimaki, I've been having the best luck with 40 & 45 grain bullets. The best loads I've...

L46 Stocks Question: Light wood vs. dark

Thanks Dick. So it sounds like the L46's that I'm seeing with lighter stocks are then walnut, just lighter variations of it. I had always wondered about that. I appreciate your info! Austin

L46 Stocks Question: Light wood vs. dark

I'm new to posting on the forum, but very glad to learn about the great resource on Sakos you gentlemen have created here. My question is in regards to the wood used on the older L46 Sakos, it seems that the majority that I have seen have been very light in color like blonde or honey. What...
