• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

    Warne ringmounts

As with all things man made, there are variations in the dimensions of the Sako integral dovetail receiver mount. In my experience the variations are minimal do the the very tight tolerances employed by Sako. Using the same scope base, the final position of the base may vary slightly from gun...

    New member here.

Most of the long range (500-1000 yds) bench rest shooters will only clean after a match (50-75 rounds). Some will go as long as 200 rounds between cleanings. That being said, these guys are slinging bullets on a very routine basis. The guns are not sitting uncleaned for longer than a day or...

    7x57 sako ?

Now that's what I call "backing up a statement"!

    7x57 sako ?

I do not know if Sako ever chambered the 7X57 or not, but here are a couple of reasons as to why they may have opted out on the 7X57. The 7X57 has a case length of 2.235" with an overall cartridge length of 3.065" These dimensions are about 0.2" longer than the 308 case family cartridges for...

Rechambering a Sako VL63 from 308 to 300 wsm Possible??.

SAAMI pressure specs are: 22-250 65,000 PSI 243 60,000 PSI 7MM 08 61,000 PSI 308 62,000 PSI 338 Federal 62,000 PSI Based on those pressure specs for factory loaded ammunition I would think that if a gun is strong enough for 22-250 through 308...

    SAKO A-1 or A-2?

The OAL of my L579 firing pin assembly is 6.5", so I would say Paul nailed it. John

Strapman, I have an extra #4 if it will work. Sent you a PM John

Bolt turned and cant get back?????

Steve, Sounds to me like you have de-cocked the firing pin assembly in the bolt. It happens quite often with any bolt action. Just to make certain, look at the bolt and firing pin assembly. Are they lined up as though the whole shebang were in the gun with the bolt closed and the tip of the...

    mule deer

cat9, I agree with deergoose that .243 may be a bit light. Again, killed over 20 whitetails and antelope with it, but consider a bit on the light side for Colorado mule deer. I personally would set the 7MM 08 on the low side and go up from there. I shot a 30" mulie at 200 yards with my 280...

    Emmerth, what were we thinking?

You must obtain a Firearms Shipment Approval number from CADOJ Bureau of Firearms prior to delivering a firearm to a California FFL. Consequently, you will need to enroll in the CFLC program to obtain Firearms Shipment Approval numbers prior to shipping firearms to California. In addition to...

Disappointing accuracy from new Sakot 85 Finnlight in .308 Win.

Al, One more suggestion prior to sending the rifle out. Recently I was at the range with a new rifle outfitted with a quality scope and experiencing your same issue. Group sizes that did not meet expecations. I was talking with one of the "experts" and told him what was going on, and that it...

    AII Alteration

Powell, All of the cartridges/chambering you mention will not even function in an AII/L579 action. The OAL of all of those place them into the L61R action length. As Stonecreek pointed out the AII/L579 was designed for 308 Win length cartridges (ie 243, 308, 7MM-08, etc). I have had two L579...

    Scope choice.

I had a Leupold 3.5X10 VariX III 40 MM objective on my elk rifle and went to a Leupold 4X12 VariX II 40MM. I have been kicking my butt ever since. I am not that familiar with the VariX III 4X12, but would highly suggest going with the Leupold 3.5X10 50 MM VariX III. I agree with tucotom, you...

    Elk guns

I can swear by the 225 gr Accubonds. I made a frontal shot on a bull elk at 44 yards with my 340 Weatherby with a muzzle velocity of 3100 FPS. We actually found the bullet and it had retained approximately 20% of its mass, with nice expansion. A lesser bullet would have disappeared in...

Sako A1 Custom Tony Barnes Pistol ~ Help!?!?

dukhnt, At this stage of the game you are guessing at the appropriate cartridge. I would suggest taking/sending it to a qualified gunsmith and have a cerrosafe cast made of the chamber. From this cast he can determine the chamber dimensions and with a little research tell you what cartridge...

    Elk guns

Stonecreek, This equation has no basis in science nor is it definitive. If you run the number across a bunch of different cartridges I think you will find it a relatively decent rule of thumb. Set the cut off point wherever you feel appropriate, but I would hope that there are cartridges out...

    Elk guns

Ahhh, but as usual the devil is in the details. One man's " reasonable" is another man's irrational. So how do we define "reasonable" ? Multiply the 200 yard bullet energy of your choice times its caliber. If the resulting number is less than 600 leave it at home. I feel this factor should...

    Elk guns

c-broad, IMO your choice of scopes is excellent. I had a 3.5 X 10 Leupold years ago and moved up their 4X12 for more magnification. I have regretted the decision ever since. Your choice is ideal for dusk/dawn with more than enough magnification. I wish I had never made the trade. As to...

    Elk guns

c_broad, I do not have a 338Mag, but have used the 250gr Nosler Partitions in my 340 Weatherby mag. They are exceptional. My 5th elk (a 5X5) presented me with a broadside at 50 yards. I dropped into a sitting position, held on his shoulder and pulled the trigger. He turned and took off...

    Elk guns

Cat9, As I stated in an earlier post (IMHO) the 30-06 is the minimum I will allow on my elk hunts. Loaded with a premium 180 grain bullet it should do fine. Shot placement is critical, although you have a kill zone that is the size of a basketball. I would sugest that limiting shot...
