• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

    A11 Deluxe 308

The rifle in post #7 above is a 20" barreled .308. I've owned many fine rifles, but this AII is the most accurate and best handling rifle of them all. While the wood finish is somewhat matte like the original poster, the butt pads are different. My red pad is marked 'Sako'.

    A11 Deluxe 308

I don't believe that all AII's had high gloss stocks. My AII Mannlicher from 1982(?) has a matte finish that looks like photo above without the the rosewood grip cap.

    Removing sights from AII

Not sure about the front sight but the rear Williams sight can be easily detached by removing the screws. For a perfect filler fit, use 6-48 x 1/8" Forster Plug Screws for the job. Product #: 835122 at Midway USA.

What rifles other than sako's do you hunt with?

Besides Sako, I also hunt with Schultz and Larsen rifles chambered in 7x61 Sharpe and Hart (later known as the Super 7x61). They are manufactured in Otterup, Denmark and this M68DL was manufactured in late 1967. They have many desirable features like a lean stock with a nice amount of cast-off...

Sako Mannlicher accuracy vs. standard stocked model

Last year I sighted in these three Sako's during the same session: *1974 production L61R Deluxe in 25-06 that had been floated, bedded, and crowned (24.5" barrel) *1991 production AV L61R Deluxe in 25-06 (23" barrel) *1984 production AII Mannlicher in .308 (20" barrel) I fully expected the...

Will Eyepiece & Objective on 28mm -> 33mm Scopes Clear? New L579 (AII) + Sako Original "Low" Rings

Sure... Full View: Ocular Clearance: Objective Clearance: No signs of scope:barrel contact upon firing and the front sight hood does not appear in the field of view when in a shooting position. Scope:barrel clearance is .003" (.0762 mm). Hope this helps!

long shot - Buehler mounts/rings Sako round action

You may be in luck. I prefer Buehler mounts to any other and have learned that they still are open part-time as the Buehler estate liquidates remaining inventory. Robert "Bob" Ray retired in 1994 when production ceased but he still comes to the shop on a part-time basis to assist folks...

Request For Sako Buying Tips: How Can One Maximize Chance of Getting A Genuine Uncorrupted Factory

I too found that these rifles have changed hands many times and that the majority of sellers have no idea whether or not their rifle is an unaltered original. In checklist form, it sounds like the items to scrutinize would look something like this when evaluating a rifle (I added a few as...

Request For Sako Buying Tips: How Can One Maximize Chance of Getting A Genuine Uncorrupted Factory

In a few recent threads, questions have been raised around the authenticity of some rifles offered for sale in online auctions. Besides the forum examples, I have also monitored two auction sellers in particular that seem to have a continuous and long-term supply of mint pre-72 Deluxe rifles...

    You must see this Sako...

What's the issue with the seller? I bought an AII Mannlicher carbine from a dealer from the same small town with a very similar name last year. Reason to be concerned?

    removing mannlicher rear sight

I can confirm that Forster Plug Screws 6-48 x 1/8" work perfectly for this job. Product #: 835122 at Midway USA. Brownells and Numrich did not have them in stock last time I checked.

    Need help, 25-06 finnbear deluxe

Point of Correction: The rifle I referenced (#838XX) is indeed a Garcia import according to the person I bought it from (my other 25-06 is a Stoeger import). The barrel was reblued some time ago and the importer stamp is removed. The rifle has a two-lug bolt and I don't see any recesses in...

    Need help, 25-06 finnbear deluxe

I have a Deluxe 25-06 with serial number 838XX that I purchased from a member here on the forum. It is a Garcia import with a two lug bolt and 24.5" barrel. The previous two owners were Sako collectors and believed it was imported ~1975.

Wanted: Metal Magazine Follower for a .308 Sako AII Action

Looking to buy a metal magazine follower to fit a .308 Sako AII action. I suppose a follower made to fit an L579 action would work too but am not sure. My rifle came with a plastic follower that I don't like as much as the metal version. Thanks!

Will Eyepiece & Objective on 28mm -> 33mm Scopes Clear? New L579 (AII) + Sako Original "Low" Rings

Another update for the reference archive...I tried out all of these scopes in person and none would clear when using original Sako low ring mounts on an L579/AII action: 1. Leupold FX-II 4x33* 2. Leupold FX-II 6x36 3. Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32 4. IOR Valdada 4x32 Hunting Scope However...
