• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Short Actions Early L46 with Wing Safety

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Icebear - I'm partial to the left wing safety L46's - my small brood includes a 222 w/ ser #6275 dtd 1/13/1951. My others are a 7x33 #2663 6/16/1947 (w/earlier style wing safety), a 218Bee #5637 1/19/1951, & a 22Hornet #6172 2/5/1951.

Last I checked they had an older 3x Leupy, all cleaned & refurbished, for sale.
Yes, at $400 for VG and $450 for excellent. That's a collector price, and for an M7 at that (the one on my Model 70 is an M8). I looked through their listings and they do have some reasonably priced scopes, and others that seem to be for hard-core, deep-pockets collectors of old optics. I think I'll be pursuing other options, but I will keep Vintage Gun Scopes in mind if I decide to have a scope rebuilt.

Finally got the wing-safety L46 to the range. This was really just to get the scope zeroed, as I had a pile of Sako and Tikka rifles that either were newly acquired or I had changed scopes. Zeroing half a dozen rifles in a morning doesn't give much time per rifle. So, I only fired a few rounds from the L46. The results were very promising, as shown in the target below, shot at 100 yards. The three-shot group measures about an inch. I tweaked the windage adjustment a bit and fired the last two rounds in the box of ammo, resulting in the two-shot group circled. This was with Remington 50-grain ammo; I've had far better results in other Sakos with Lapua or handloads, so that's telling me the gun has a lot of potential for improvement. Also, I did not have time to try it out with 40-grain bullets. I'm eager to give the 40-grain a shot, as the slow twist of the rechambered Hornet barrel (see earlier posts) should be ideal for the lighter bullet. As a sidebar, I did try out my .222 Tikka M55 with 40-grain Winchester factory ammo and got a 3/4 inch group.
