I was fortunate to purchase my first Sako rifle today. I am a lever action fan and had always wanted a Finnwolf. I was able to get (what I think is) a fair deal on this VL63 this past weekend.

It is a right handed 308 with a monte carlo stock in great condition. it looks like it has barely been shot and it has one small scratch on the stock that I had to look closely to find. It has the 4 round magazine, weighs 7lbs, 1.7 ounces, has a 22 inch barrel and a serial number of 1142.

I am very happy to have it, and I enjoy reading your posts.

Michael. Welcome aboard and congrats on you first Sako, you cannot go wrong with such a fine rifle. From the picture it looks like you are missing the rear sight and possibly the scope base plates.
It is one of my favorites.

Thank you for reply. You are correct but I thought I read on here somewhere that Pre-Garcia Finnwolf's did not come with rear sites? Maybe I read that wrong? If so, I will have to try and find one which I hear is often quite difficult.

As a general rule it is true that most early Finnwolf's you see do not have a rear sight but I have owned one that did and have seen others advertised. If your gun came with a rear sight your barrel may be drilled/tapped or may see evidence where the sight was desoldered. I did some searches and found one advertised at
    https://www.lauritz.com/en/auction/sako-finnwolf-lever-action-cal-308-win/i3399728/?ver=12c

Like all things Sako there never seems to be a 100% rule other than accuracy of their guns

Mick- The "Rear Sight" that your rifle is designed to use is a Sako Peepsight. You need the Finnwolf scope mounting plates to place it on your rifle.
