• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Pre Garcia Sako Finnbear L6R1

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

I'm a bit confused if I could get some help. I recently purchesed a Sako Finnbear in 7mm Mag its Ser#53114 three lug bolt and Firearms international stamp on the Barrel everything says Pre Garcia but that high of a ser# is confusing.

It's almost impossible to determine much from just a serial number with Sako. We have factory records that show serial numbers "one" number apart that were shipped years apart & serial numbers thousands of numbers apart that were shipped the same day. Sako didn't produce guns in sequential order related to SN's. Your rifle falls within the serial number range we have factory records for, so why not click on "Factory Records Service" in the upper left of this page & request the info??

Welcome. Since your rifle has firearms int on the barrel, there is no reason to waste your money on a records request. Firearms int was the importer before Garcia.

Sorry, but the L61R records we have only go to about 48,900 so your rifle (although within the pre-1972 period) won't be in the inspection records. It will be within the shipping records, which go into 1978, but finding it there would be a needle/haystack problem since those records are not in serial number order.

I never was good with numbers. Sorry for the erroneous advice. For some reason I thought they went to 58,800.

I don't think your "info" about serial number 53XXX being made in 1977 can possibly be correct. L61R serial numbers went up to 90054 around 1973 & then a numbering change started in 1974 with serial number 500001. You may be short a number on the rifle you are referring to as serial number 530537 was from 1977. Like I said in my previous post, trying to determine anything about Sakos from the serial number alone is a fool's errand.
