• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Short Actions Gun Show L461

I attended the show at the Ahern Casino in Vegas, it was the first for the promoter. Was pleasantly surprised that they limited non-gun related vendors. Didn’t take long for me to spot this cherry (possibly unfired) Sako L461 in 223. Since it has the AI bolt with shrouded firing pin, vixen stock and L461 action, guessing
it’s a transitional gun made around 1980. It was wearing a new Weaver CKT15 in Talley rings. I didn’t bother to negotiate. I happily gave the seller the $1100 he was asking.

I reluctantly swapped the beautiful, gloss Weaver for a Leupold MK II 3-9x40 Tactical.

Nice!
You did good!
I like the high comb models , the grain quality is almost always outstanding and 223 is hard to come by…well done 👍

Haven’t kept up on Sako prices, but I thought $1100 for the package was more than fair. That Weaver is so pretty, wish it was 6x.

Well done! This forum serves as a hotline for Sako addiction, dependence, craving, etc & best of all you will always have your related acquisition validated as any reason or rationale will do.

Thanks
True, I’ve owned about every type of sako model and caliber made, with the exception of the 7x33. At one time I had 90+ . With this one I now have 3, 😇

I went there looking for pre lock Smiths and Colts. Couldn’t not take this beauty home. ❤️

That is a horrible attrition rate, good luck with your recovery. I, too, have 3 sakos. (That I’ve yet to shoot…)

Had to do something, it was out of control. I switched my disease on Smiths and Colts. However, I couldn’t leave this package to someone else. This past summer I had the same dilemma when I fortuitously crossed paths with this cherry deluxe Finnbear that PO Ackley himself touched. Have always wanted a custom Sako in 6.5-06. Now I have one done by the legend himself. 45C46415-0F20-4CAD-85C6-805A8559F59A.jpeg 367F2BBC-A0F8-40FD-B713-C8C1A66550AE.jpeg

The 6.5-06 is a great caliber that never made it in the marketplace. It comes within a hair of .264 WinMag performance with less powder, noise, flash, muzzle blast, and throat erosion. It's an ideal all-around caliber for deer, pronghorns, etc. It never took off in the marketplace because the niche between .25-06 and .270 was too small for anybody to see a need. The .256 Newton was almost identical but it also never attracted a following. I had a chance to pick up a pretty nice .256 Newton rifle at a show a few years ago, but it was kind of pricey and I wasn't in the mood for forming cases - been there, done that with a .35 Newton.

The rifle in the photo is super cool - an otherwise stock Sako Deluxe rebarreled by P.O. Ackley. What can I say? Factory formed cases are available from Quality Cartridge. The brass is easily made from .25-06, but I prefer headstamped brass if I can get it.

I have an NIB L61R action and a fancy semi-inletted L61R stock blank from the Fajen liquidation. I've been thinking about having a custom builder add a barrel in 6.5-06, finish the inletting, and pillar bed the action. I can do the finishing and checkering myself. Only problem is, I already have a long list of projects to do and I don't know if I'd ever getting around to finishing the rifle.
