• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

I’ve got a sako with a factory 220 swift varmint barrel and wood stock. Action is labeled AII on reciever before the serial number. Can someone tell me what models with synthetic stock replacements will fit this? Thanks!

Howdy Ryan,

Ive only used McMillan stocks, and I’m not sure if they are still making them. Other brands are Manners, HS precision, Brown, Bell and Carlson…you’ll need to look around. Even though we love the older Sakos (L579/ AII) they are 33 to 66 years old. The manufacturers probably arent putting out new stocks with any regularity. NOS, dust magnets or special orders might be your pathways. I found a private sale McM AV stock a couple years ago and picked it up on the cheap, so good luck.

Hi Gowyo. Do I understand you correctly in that a 579 stock will fit my AII? Thank you!

It should, action-wise. You might measure the bbl diameter at the end of the action, end of forend and at the muzzle to compare specs. If I’m wrong, we’ll both be set straight here directly.

Depends on what L579 stock you have. The earlier L579s had a different width bottom metal & a slimmer barrel profile than the later L579's & AII's. If the L579 stock is post Bofors it should fit your AII OK. Just measure the bottom metal inletting & the barrel channel width to confirm.

I just had a stock made for my Sako A2 220 swift. It’s a Brown Precision. I’m not aware of anyone else that still makes synthetic stocks for the A2. Wait time was about four months, but I believe it’s longer now. I had to send them the barreled action so that they could build it properly. I chose to do the final finish camo painting myself.
If you want any details or pics, pm me and I’ll respond. I don’t post pics ( don’t know how and no interest in learning).
And the Gun Father in Montana makes wood stocks for the A2 they look nice on the internet, but are quite expensive.
