• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

L579 Article

Sako Collectors Club Discussion Forum

Good article DG.
first that I have heard, even from this site “ oil hardened steel”
The writer states could be heavy to hunt with, it clearly is a Varmint grade, and not really intended for long hikes, …..but I have a .222 Rem Mag, Heavy Barrel, that I carry and I am approaching 70yo…..!he also states the scope mounting option, he’s not happy with them?? Why not? Leupold make great and affordable rings to suit any scope option.
and then when he mentioned. Piccatinny rail, that did it, I nearly switched off!!
overall great article, and thanks for putting it up.

Same here wombat…the gun writer is young and we simply don’t play enough Xbox to understand the beauty and functionality of the piccatinny rail system

Nothing wrong with the Picatinny rail system. It's a solid, adaptable system. Perfect return to zero with QD rings. Works great on my Steyr SSG69 PII. It just isn't relevant to a vintage Sako, which has its own excellent mounting system. Putting a Picatinny rail on an L579 makes about as much sense as a night vision scope on a Trapdoor Springfield. Or, for that matter, as much sense as taking a heavy-barrel varmint rifle, hanging a Harris bipod on it, and then complaining it's too heavy to use as a walk-around deer rifle.

But what do you expect from a Facebook post?

Thanks, I have a mint L579 Forester in .243 that I bought used in the 80's that still takes a deer every now and then.

I wince at picatinny's too! Vulgarities; but sometimes they are all you can get. I installed my first picatinnys in the last month after years of successfully avoiding them.
