• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Have a query regarding stock types on A11's. Did all deluxe's have glossy stocks? This is the second one I have seen with a Matte finish and no white line spacing on the rosewood, both 308 and serial numbers in the 339##. Rifle purchased from a retired gun shop owner who bought it new for around $450 in 1978. He claims it has always had a matte finish. Has anyone seen this on early A11's. Rifle sat in his safe for years and is mint apart from the hard recoil pad.

I'm a lefty so no palm swell suits me fine, jury still out on stock finish as to if it is original or been dulled by some means.
Thanks for the comments.

I don't believe that all AII's had high gloss stocks. My AII Mannlicher from 1982(?) has a matte finish that looks like photo above without the the rosewood grip cap.

Both of these rifles shared on this thread are beautiful. I love that little full stock rifle. What caliber. I almost bought one in 243 a year or so ago.....

The rifle in post #7 above is a 20" barreled .308. I've owned many fine rifles, but this AII is the most accurate and best handling rifle of them all. While the wood finish is somewhat matte like the original poster, the butt pads are different. My red pad is marked 'Sako'.
