• Hey All! Lately there has been more and more scammers on the forum board. They register and replies to members requests for guns and/or parts or other things. The reply contains a gmail or hotmail address or similar ”anonymous” email addresses which they want you to reply to. DO NOT ANSWER ANY STRANGE MESSAGES! They often state something like this: ”Hello! Saw your post about purchasing a stock for a Safari. KnuckleheadBob has one. Email him at: [email protected]” If you receive any strange messages: Check the status of whoever message you. If they have no posts and signed up the same day or very recently, stay away. Same goes for other members they might refer to. Check them too and if they are long standing members, PM them and ask if the message is legit. Most likely it’s not. Then use the report function in each message or post so I can kick them out! Beware of anything that might seem fishy! And again, for all of you who registered your personal name as username, please contact me so I can change it to a more anonymous username. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our! All the best! And be safe! Jim

Say What????? Strange Sako on Gunbroker

This one is a total mystery to me. Here's the title of the auction:
Sako L461R Rifle 7.62X1.579 W/Leupold Scope
Now, L461R is an obvious typo; it's an L61R. But the caliber - look at the photos. That is actually what is stamped on the barrel. I have no idea what that means. The barrel is stamped Sako as well. Anybody have a guess what this is about?

Doing a little math, could it maybe be a 7.62x39mm, converted to inches? 1.579x25.4= about 40, which is close to 39. That, of course, makes no sense - but then, neither does any other explanation I can think of.

By the way, the same seller has a real nice looking Deluxe in .338 WM with a low opening bid, if you are looking for one.

Weird for sure. If you look at old wildcat cartridges it almost equates to .308 x 1.5 Barnes or .30 BR. But the 1.579 = 40MM instead of 38 MM, which obviously equates to 1.5”. Very unusual.

It looks like 1.579 squared. 2.49x25.4=63
7.62x63 ??
Possibly. 7.62x63 is a seldom-used European term for .30-06. I noticed that 2 at the end, like it was squared, but I didn't make the connection. You may have it. Maybe some math major is having fun.

Same seller had several sako action guns for sale last week.
All with leupold glass and custom tubes.

Sold for $980, including a Leupold 6.5-20x, in classic Sako high rings. Somebody got a good deal.

Hopefully the buyer does a cast test to make sure what the caliber dimensions actually are. Could possibly be some ones hybrid experiment. Sakojim.
